Movement can support mental and physical health in several ways. The effects differ from person to person.
-
Mood and wellbeing
Regular activity may support mood, wellbeing and management of stress.
-
Sleep
It may support better sleep and a steadier daily rhythm.
-
Physical health
It supports cardiovascular fitness, muscle and bone health, and long-term physical health.
-
Confidence and routine
Enjoyable, repeatable movement can help build confidence and daily structure.
-
Social connection
Group activities can create opportunities to spend time with other people.
-
Thinking and brain health
Movement may support concentration, learning and brain health across life.
Benefits vary, and movement does not replace mental or physical healthcare.

Answer seven questions about the last seven days to calculate an estimated IPAQ-SF activity score. You can browse the directory without completing this. Your answers stay in this browser tab and are not stored or sent anywhere.
Enter hours and additional minutes. If either duration box is left blank, it is treated as zero.
IPAQ-SF was developed and tested mainly for people aged 15 to 69. It is a self-report estimate, not a diagnosis or an assessment of whether an activity is clinically suitable for you.
Your estimated IPAQ-SF result
Your result: activity level
- Total
- MET-min/week
- Walking
- Moderate
- Vigorous
- Usual weekday sitting
How this was calculated
For IPAQ-SF scoring, each reported activity duration is capped at 180 minutes per day. Sitting time is reported separately and is not included in the MET-minute total or category.
This is an estimate, not a diagnosis. It does not show whether a particular activity is clinically suitable for you.
The IPAQ convention counts activity in bouts of at least 10 minutes. Current UK guidance recognises that activity accumulated in bouts of any length can have benefits. An IPAQ Moderate or High category does not prove that every UK physical-activity recommendation has been met.
Activity finder
Find an activity that could work for you
Search and filter the directory. Information can change, so confirm the details with the provider before attending.
Find activities nearest to you
Enter a UK postcode to order located activities by increasing straight-line distance. Miles are shown on each result. Listings without a usable venue postcode remain available after the located results.
Distance lookup uses Postcodes.io. This page does not store your postcode. Distances are approximate straight-line distances, not walking, driving or public-transport distances.
